Andrew H. Chen

Managing Partner

Andrew H. Chen is Managing Partner of Arion Ventures. Arion Ventures is a strategic advisory firm that provides various management consulting services including private placements and strategy consulting. Through this capacity he works closely with family offices, venture capital and private equity firms.

He also currently lectures a graduate course on emerging technology and entrepreneurship part-time at the School of Design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and is an Entrepreneur In Residence at the PolyU Innohub. He also currently advises numerous other venture backed startups. Andrew also mentors at numerous other accelerators and incubators including Eureka Nova, the startup accelerator of the New World Group.

Prior, Andrew was the Founder and CEO of Menuscript. Previously he also worked as a corporate consultant, where he worked with a wide range of organisations to solve strategic issues. Through his engagements he has worked with early stage ventures, Fortune 500 companies, academic institutions, non-profit organisations, and social enterprises.

Andrew grew up in Toronto, Canada, is a graduate of University of Toronto where he graduated with high distinction and currently has resided in Hong Kong for 15 years. In his spare time he volunteers within various causes focused on education and social services and mentors recent graduates and current students.

Daniel P. Chan

Partner

Daniel Chan is a seasoned supply chain management professional with extensive background in various Fortune 500 companies, and successful track record managing regional/international operations and projects. Daniel was co-founder of a eCommerce Online-to-Offline (OTO) fulfillment startup, responsible for the strategic management and daily operations across the company, advising customers on omni-channel strategy and end-to-end system integration. Prior to that he was Senior Supply Chain Planning Manager of Asia Pacific at Microsoft, managing the regional Sales & Operation Planning function which includes collaborative forecasting across multiple channels, demand & supply planning, inventory optimization and new product introduction. Prior to joining Microsoft, Daniel worked as Leader, Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning at Bloomberg. In the 16 years prior, Daniel held various senior supply chain positions at Nortel, Nike, General Motors and BASF. He holds an MBA and Master of Logistics & Operations Management degree from Macquarie Graduate School of Management, and Mechanical Engineering degree from University of Toronto.

Dr. Alick Lau

Partner

Dr. Alick Lau brings over 15 years of entrepreneurial and investment experience to the Arion Venture team, offering a diverse background in early-stage ventures. His journey in investment began as an intern at the venture capital unit of the Queensland state government’s Smart State initiative in the late 2000s, where he contributed towards the team in fostering the early developments of the country’s angel investment and venture capital industry. He later co-founded New Ventures Australia, a boutique consultancy and trading house with an ex-Austrade Officer that facilitated Australian businesses entering Asian markets, which subsequently evolved into an innovation investment firm.

Alick possesses a unique understanding of the Australian startup ecosystem, cross-border investments, and strategic partnerships, as well as the challenges faced by early-stage companies. His expertise is complemented by his work with universities, where he designed and hosted foreign direct investment and small business investment programs for government delegates on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

Currently, Dr. Lau is the co-founder of The Digital Entertainment Leadership Forum Australia (DELFOz), an initiative aimed at attracting industry thought leaders and investors to Brisbane, Queensland, in support of economic development leading up to the city’s hosting of the 2032 Olympic Games.

Academically, Alick holds a Doctorate in Biotechnology from the University of Queensland, specializing in technology transfer and finance. This unique blend of scientific insight and financial acumen is essential for evaluating high-growth ventures. Additionally, he served as Project Manager and Resident Entrepreneur at the MultiMedia Lab, a digital media commercialisation center at the School of Design, Polytechnic University of Hong Kong. And organised the city’s first TEDxHongKong and TEDx Youth Day in 2010.

Fluent in English and Cantonese, and currently learning Mandarin, Alick effectively navigates the diverse startup ecosystems across Australasia. His extensive professional network, built through a career spanning both Asia and Australia, enhances his ability to connect investors with opportunities and drive strategic growth for portfolio companies.

 

Our Board of Advisors

Robert W. Lim

Robert Lim is a private equity professional with 20+ years of experience. 

Robert is currently Principal and the Deal Director of TransAsia.  He is a seasoned career private equity professional with over 15 years of relevant experience in North and South-East Asia. He has held senior roles in his previous posts and has managed teams of analysts prior to joining TransAsia as Principal. Before joining TransAsia, he was a Managing Director at the Private Equity arm of Ajia Partners, an independent Asian alternative investment group and worked on growth capital deals including a focus on consumer and restaurants sectors. Prior to Ajia Partners, Robert was an early team member of the Asian private equity division of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation. Earlier in his career, he managed global mergers, acquisitions and divestitures for Bank America Corporation. Robert holds an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.
